Hi everyone, here is a close up of a 1973-S Memorial Cent - notice the filled "S". Is this an error or worth anything? Thanks.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Dude! You can tell that the die which produced your coin was deteriorating because of the uneven outlines of the date/mm. It is not unusual for some of the letters and numbers of coins to be filled when the post that forms the center breaks away, allowing metal to flow into the void. These errors are still only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Chris
Not sure if you or someone else asked this about Lincoln S coins for circulation or not. But all of the S coins from 1968-1974 exhibited this, especially from 68-72, so much so that these are actually the norm rather than an exception. Very common. Only the unknowing would pay any premium for these.
