Going through some 2x2's this morning and found 1 with the plastic interior split. Before putting it in a new 1 i checked it over. Variety vista shows it has all the identifying points for DDR-002. Extensive doubling over the entire reverse, doubling of the entire eagle's profile, more prominent at the top half of the coin, to name a few. It also has two die cracks? just under the top of each wing, that are not mentioned. Is this something that they should be informed of and how would i go about doing so. As you probably know i am english and live in Spain and am not familiar with the proccess and don't want to go outside the accepted practices you have. Many thanks in advance for any advice you can give. PS it looks like i will have to go through each of the coins in flips that i inherited because obviously you miss a lot viewing them through the plastic insert.
It must be my eye/brain connection that doesn't allow me to see a doubling. What I do see is a very small radius where the character blends into the planchet. Checked VV and am bewildered by some of the examples. I think I need to don my 'Magoo' glasses.
I thought that as well. When i first had it in hand but i can't find any distinct matches to the obverse just vague similarities. Also maddieclashes only have a reference for 1971-d. It is why i wondered if i should submit it to someone with more equipment and experience in such matters.
Your photos just aren't clear enough to tell what kind of doubling it is. Use some of the photos here. http://varietyvista.com/13 Eisenhower Dollars/1973SDDR002.htm And try to replicate them. IE the doubling on the stars. The split serifs on the letters.
Thanks for taking the time to look but i checked against that already. The doubling on this coin is extensive, sometimes over 1.0mm of separation. You see it in hand without a magnifier. Picture 4 shows it absolutely but it depends what you are viewing with, mobile, pad or larger screen. I am in no doubt about it being DDR-002 it is the possible die cracks just under the tops of the wings and the possibility of a die clash that i can't find references to.
I am not questioning the doubling you see, there are many forms of doubling, and you could be completely mis attributing the coin. Clear and in focus photos would help you get the answers you are after. These aren't cutting it, there is too much glare on the areas in question. Not too mention the relief on the earth doesn't match 002.
