I am not a collector but my son has some coins he wanted to find out what they were worth.
This is a 1973 half dollar and at the top of the head it looks like an error but I am not sure having never saw one before.
Here are 2 photos, I did one in black and white to see if it shows more detail. Can anyone help me please? What would this be worth if anything?

Howdy TROUBLE4U2 - Welcome to the Forum !!

Based on the pics I can't tell for sure what is going on with that coin. It kind of looks like the area in question is missing the clad layer. Can you take another color pic - larger & closer ? Or let me ask you this - the area in question, is the surface lower than the rest of the coin or is it higher ? I don't mean lower/higher than the head - but the rest of the fields, the flat areas.

I feel so dumb here but I wasn't sure how to tell if it was lower or higher. It looks lower but when I run a fingernail over the place it feels the same as the other flat place. I hope this photo is better. I try to make it bigger and it won't download because of size. On the right side of the discolored place it looks like a cut mark on the rim but again when you run a nail across it doesn't snag like a cut would.

That tells me what I needed to know ;) The coin has come into contact, in that area only, with something that has caused it to discolor. If it were anything else - you would be able to feel the difference.
