I found the following searching rolls. The area near the blob is recessed (deeper than the coin face) but not by a lot. I can see this under the stereo microscope. Crack doesn't run though the rim though. So is this a retained cud or just a die crack? Thanks for your thoughts. Neill.
Die crack. A retained cud should be elevated, not recessed. Anyway, there isn't enough vertical displacement, horizontal offset, or lateral spread to qualify as a retained cud.
