Hello everyone - I caught my father-in-law hand rolling 20 years worth of coins out of a 10 gallon aquarium. He was nice enough to let me have at it with the pennies and I can’t across a beautiful 1972d. I believe there’s doubling in the date but not across the top. Would this be considered a sought after double-die or is it an average, non valuable variety? One thing it does have going for it is the color. It’s Red and gorgeous. Love it. What do you think?

I believe that is what is referred to as machine doubling (MD) and is an artifact of the die moving during the strike. Adds no value, but looks neet. Welcome to CT

Hey thank you!! That makes sense and is probably the same on this 1983 Lincoln I assume?

Yes, as far as I can tell. Machine doubling and worn die doubling are both rather flat and shelf-like. Real hub doubling (which is the one you are looking for) shows both images to be rounded and if it is at a corner, you can often see notching. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to post a link here for you or you can Google "Lincoln cent doubling"

    Looks like MD.
