I purchased this MS67 (IMHO it should have been an MS66) on ebay the other day for $19.50, probably to much but I noticed it looked like a type II and wanted to know what the pros here thought. The Picture found here: http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=51&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 is what it mine looks like (best way to give an expensive since mine pic is a little blurry) Also used these are references: http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=51&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 http://reviews.ebay.com/1972-Type-1-2-3-Eisenhower-Dollars_W0QQugidZ10000000002147718 If it's not, well hopefully I did okay on the price lol. Thanks for your help,
All 1972 S are type II reverse. The scarce one is the cupro-nickel clad 1972 (P) with the type II reverse..
Pick up a Redbook it can save you a lot of money rather than throwing money at a guess... not that the coin you bought isn't a nice clean example. For more detailed reference, check out: The Ike Group.org And here is another great CT thread that the Ike collectors post to: Post an Ike
You can still view these pages on the old PCGS Coin Facts page too: 1972 $1 Type 1 (Regular Strike) 1972 $1 Type 2 (Regular Strike) 1972 $1 Type 3 (Regular Strike) You can also run the coin's cert number on PCGS to check it's authentic and see PCGS' price guide (widely considered useless for determining value): PCGS.com: 71617074
Thanks for the links (I do have a red book...it was a spir of the moment type thing, only pointing fingers at me)
