1972 Penny- DS- need help identifying

    I need advice about this 1972 penny. Depsite all the info. out there about the 1972s, I am not able to verify the mintmarks, etc. It looks like they are both there, and I cannot find any reference material on it. Please see the pictures and let me know what you think. Any help with be appreciated. Thank you. :)

    It looks like a 'D' that has been damaged. Through the process of elimination I would say it is a 'D'. It could not be an 'S' because the undamaged portion of the mintmark does not match an 'S' and does match a 'D'.

    I vote for a "D" also for the reasons Hobo gives.
