Good evening fellow coin talkers, I am hoping you guys can shed some light on my recent coin searching endeavours. I have a 1972 no mint mark penny that looks to be in top conditions, It weighs 3.3 grams (.2 more from the regular pennies from that year) it is thicker than the other pennies. I compared it by taking a pic with it in between 2 other pennies from around the same year. Also I have a cool looking 1998 D quarter (Weighs 5.8 grams, .2 more than it is supposed to weigh) that looks as if it was struck with another coin on Washington's head. If you look at the back of the coin you can see the round shape going across. What is cool about this coin is that it kind of looks like Sir Washington is rocking a sweet mullet by the way the mistake was struck. Any help, tips, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello and welcome to CoinTalk
The 1 coin is a 1972 Cent that was minted in Philadelphia. They did not use a mintmark. It is also a Misaligned Die Strike on the Obverse side. You can tell by the false double rim on the upper right side. This is a common minor error found on Cents from the early 70's. It's extra weight is within tolerance.

The Quarter looks to be PMD/PSD to me. That means Post Mint Damage or Post Strike Damage. Maybe a bit of old soldering? Bigger clearer pictures would help.

I'm sure other members might chime in.
