Checking for some error varieties in an old change jar, I came across this 1972 with mild date doubling and a strange 2nd rim around 3/4 of the obverse. What would cause this? The only thing I can think of is a planchet collar that slipped or got struck during minting? Or is there a common PMD that would cause this?
Yes this is a doubled die, just not the valuable kind. This Master die made many a working hub with the same doubling.
