Looks like a very minor "spitting eagle" clash mostly polished out of the dies. Keep it if you like it, but no real value.

Its just called a die clash... Not a double clash. But like Sam said, its not worth anything.

If this is what you're talking about, that's a hit, it looks like PMD to me...

    Ok, thats definately a hit.

Thats called a spitting eagle and it is not a hit. Its a very very minor one though, and can be found on a lot of quarters. It is caused by a die clash.

I see. I heard of this. I thought there was just one and it was a retained die crack. This is a clashed die? From what? I guess I'm having trouble envisioning the overlay.

    .
This mark does line up where Geo's chin line is. I think your assessment of double clash is plausible.
I also have a 1972-D quarter with a clash in the design of the eagle.
This is called a Atypical Clash and is more valuable than a common field clash type of coin.

The detail you highlighted contains both a contact mark and a minor clash. The one going out from the eagle's mouth is a contact mark, the one going down towards its shoulder is a minor clash.

I'm not seeing it. Sorry to be trouble but can you arrow on this where the chin comes in?

It's actually much harder to see in the close up you made than in the full photo because you have less contrast from the shadows hitting different planes of the coin for comparison. The top photo is the one where it's most visible.

@eddiespin: here a different coin I have shows it better. 20201127_094043.jpg

Thanks for the much better picture. Now that I see this, the clash is better than it looked at first. I see Washington's chin on the left wing and braid on the right wing. I would say it's good enough to save, although still not likely to be worth much of anything.

Edit: nvm, just saw this is a different coin. No wonder it's clearer.

Me too, thanks Mark! I’m seeing there’s definitely something there and following that profile on the obverse, I’m on you boys now. Got a hard head, what can I tell you? :)
