Hello! Just wondering if anyone would know if this is a FS-01? I believe those are the letters and numbers. And maybe a grade and value? Thanks!
that is a nice DDO. Definitely not an FS-001. It's either an http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1972ddo8.html or http://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/1972ddo3.html Not sure of a value though I would guess it could be in the range of $20-$50 since it's not an FS-001. I have an FS-008 in MS65 that I paid $50 for (included auction costs/shipping)
If you look carefully on the coin as in your photo of "UST", and there is a small die gouge on the left side of the crossbar of the first "T" in TRUST on the -008. If it isn't the -008, probably the -003, but the markers are more complicated across the die stages to confirm it. Gut feeling is that it is a -008, but they are close. Jim
Not sure what you mean by "right by". Look at the double crossbar at the top of the T, and on the left side there is a die gouge which would produce a raised area right near the intersection between the top doubled crossbar and the lower doubled crossbar., on the letter "T" itself. The photo is hazy at that point of focus, bu you should see with a loupe. It does have some appearance of such, but it needs to be sharper to be sure. No, #2 spread is counterclockwise, whereas the above and #8 are clockwise. Look at the "U" in "TRUST".
Is it a find or a buy? From the "Cherrypickers'Guide" page 144, FS#1c-033.56, it looks of this coin with the die gouge from the rim between the "O" and "D" of GOD. the values in this book is: XF $3.00, AU-$5.00, MS65-$10.00. Book published in 2000. Prices should be more now.:hail:
sarah, here is a mid die stage from Coppercoins, and it shows 2 markers at this point on Trust, so you might look at it also. http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1972&die_id=1972p1do008&die_state=mds 5th photo down. Wexler and Flynn mentions the die gouge on the left, but I think that is an EDS. Also notice the one on the second "T" in TRUST.
