I saw these two coins on eBay for real cheap and I couldn't resist bidding on them. I won both for a grand total of $44.51 (+ S&H). One is a 1972 Double Die Obverse and the other is a 1983 Double Die Reverse. I was wondering if I should get either of these slabbed for grading (i.e: if it's worth it): 1972 D.D. Obverse: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=110801360022 1983 D.D. Reverse: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=120836142873 Do they look MS or AU? I'm thinking low MS Thanks in advance! EDIT: Found out the pictures look really tiny so I sent the eBay links to the actual pictures. Thanks again!
Even seeing the ebay photos, I am not convinced it is even a minor doubled die for those years. It certainly is not the ones listed in most guides. The photos are fuzzy enough that it appears more to be MMD than DD. I would be happy to see your photos after you receive them.IMO. Jim
I think because the OP was trying to link the popup for the images only from eBay. Here are the links right to the listings: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120836142873?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570.l2736%26_nkw%3D120836142873%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_500wt_1361 http://www.ebay.com/itm/110801360022?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp5197.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D110801360022%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_500wt_1361
Thanks for the links BU! I will post pics once I get the coins in hand and then hopefully you call can better assess these coins
I don't quite know what SNAD is but if it's not what he described it as then I'll definitely return it.
UPDATE: Got the coins. Very disappointed. I don't even know how the guy got photos of a so-called "doubling". Here's the pics of both coins. Let me kknow if you see anything that faintly resembles a double die. The only thing that comes close is the "NT" in CENT on the 1983. The pics he took were perhaps photos of machine doubling? Thanks for the help! : 1972: 1983: I'll probably return them.
id buy this one before id buy a raw coin http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Lincoln-Memorial-Cent-PCGS-MS64RD-Doubled-Die-Obverse-CAC-Verified-/290655420379?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%2BC%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D110801360022%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5570605324945108023#ht_657wt_1037 and this one is extremely over priced... like ddddaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmrmrmrmmrmrmrmrm
The price I paid is listed at the original post. Hopefully there should be no worries -- I should be able to return it.
There should be no trouble returning them as they are not as the seller described them to be. You'll pay return shipping, and might get that back. Just file a SNAD case with PayPal and eBay.
The correct term is "doublED die" with an ED on the end. There is no such thing as a "double die". Neither of these coins is a hub doubled die strike.
