I started thinking about my Ikes so I pulled out what Ike's I have and started looking to see just what I have. I am starting with the 1971's. Proofs and UNC's, Silver and not, and looking for varieties. Well I think I have my first....and only that I can find. 1 very nice 1971-S Proof Peg Leg. This coin just happens to be the best looking that I have including the 3 Brown Ike's. What I think I have is this: It is a Peg Leg, it is not DDO, it is DCAM, I can find no other attribute for this coin such as Tiger Claw or Crater Spike. I think it would grade PR68DCAM maybe 69. It is the best that I have and it is the Peg Leg so that is good. I seem to understand that the Peg Leg in 1971 was common and not that rare so a minimum premium at best. Still this is a stunner in looks. My camera is still not the best but I think it along with my microscope came did OK in showing what I needed to show. I would estimate this as being worth $25-$30 unless I am missing something. Ike experts what say you?
Agree on $25 but only if it was graded. As for grade, I'd wager PR67DCAM given all the field disturbances.
Now some more things I have found... I die clash I think...with some machine doubling on this one. There are all kinds of things on this one.. And Machine Doubling I think.. Neat, next up I think I have a stovepipe!
A Stovepipe maybe? I have all but the 'R' so it leads me to think not... These can be found here on the Ike Group (great site by the way). http://www.ikegroup.info/DIVA listings/1971 S/1SB-601.pdf This has them all but the R is not right. It is like it is not a Peg Leg so I do not think it is but it is close indeed.
Back off on the top photo's and you'll see a die crack through INT. The other shots are just too close to make much sense other than speculation. Eisenhower Dollars can be quite mushy around the deices and as such, it makes identifying doubled dies very difficult without a lot of imagination. As for the "stovepipe"? Definitely not a stovepipe R.
Yes that is what I see also, it is why I took a close up. That is what I thought but the others looked close.
