1971s penny is the silver on it normal

    Quick answer...no. As to what it is, that is a good question, probably some kind of paint.

    Whats more probable? You've found a penny with some funny gunk on it, or you've a unique silver error?

    On the 1992 penny does the AM have to be together or just closer than others

    It was aluminum foil. I had this on a few coins too.

    A 1992 lincoln cent that has a close AM is the rare one you are referring to. You can definitely tell the difference between the two.[​IMG]

    Yes it was foil it needed more than a tooth pick to take it off thanks

    Way back in elementary school I remember people who would peel the "silver" foil free from a chewing gum cover and press it onto cents. Really thin, stuck well.
