1971 s/s Lincoln cent mint mark?

    Wanted to know if this is an S over S mint mark? Also it looks like machine doubling on the 9 but wanted to know if where the horizontal and vertical lines of the 7 meet if there is doubling? Thanks.:smile

    MDD in my opinion on both the date and the mm.

    Yep, machine doubling. Very common on cents 1968-1972. Keep up the hunt!

    I agree about the machine doubling, but I thought the mint marks were hand punched until 1990...

    They were, but they can still receive machine doubling as well. Machine doubling occurs when a coin is struck and the die shifts or bounces slightly. It can affect the mintmark as well as the date.
