    Hi All,
    I bought this coin last spring from a local gal who said it came from her father's collection. She said a pawn shop told her it was 1 oz. silver. Now I don't have the most perfectly accurate scale, but w/in a few grams it weighs about 25 g. give or take a few. Also on the edge it has printed 835 BHM. I have scoured the net and can not find anything close to it. What I do know, it's really cool and a great piece of Pirates history. I mean really?? The first night game ever to be played in a world series and the Pirates won?? How cool is that?? The first night All-Star Game was held at Philadelphia's Shibe Park in 1943, while the first World Series night game was Game 4 of the 1971 Series at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.

    Now, the weight seems reasonable (considering my scale) but it almost seems possibly plated by the wear on the edges?? If anyone can shine some light on this I would greatly appreciate it! Below is the pic of the original listing and shows the color better.

    That's an interesting round. Some of these trade for about 25 to 30 bucks.

    The back states
    "The first night game in the history of the world series"

    Sorry about any confusion. My coin has nothing to do with Shibe Park. (That was just info from Wikipedia for reference on the history of the Pirates) Please re-read my post for clarification. "While the first World Series night game was Game 4 of the 1971 Series at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.

    I think BHM may be the name of the private mint that issued the medal, but I was unable to find any old private companies with the initials BH

    @Iriegirl
    I realized that, just the mention of Shibe Park brought back memories.
    Please forgive an old man and his memories.

    Gotcha! No reason to forgive, memories are such a wonderful part of collecting! So glad you had the experience at Shibe and I'm sure it was a great game! Just wanted to make sure there wasn't any confusion on the coin. The Pirates were my fav team then, until my beloved Mariners came to be! :))

    That is a really cool whatever-it-is! I remember that game. Playing the World Series at night was a real controversy in those days. I look back and wonder why it took them so long!

    That's a very good thought and I am wondering if the 835 refers to the number of coin minted (or # in a series). I am kinda thinking it may be a good idea to go straight to the source and see if the Pirate organization can shed some light. I consider myself somewhat good at research, but I really can not find a thing on this coin.

    1971 was the first year I was old enough to understand and be interested in baseball. Growing up near Pittsburgh, I remember running home from school to watch the world series on TV. I hated the night game because my mom wouldn't let me stay up to watch the whole thing.

    I tried to do some research and came up short. I think if someone can identify the mint, that would help a lot. I couldn't see anything else on the Obv or rev that would indicate the minter other than the BHM you mentioned. Not sure if the Pirates organization would have any info, since this looks like a private issue. Hoping someone can come along with some additional info.
