I came across this 1971 no mint mark nickel with what appears to not have the reverse clad layer. When I was looking at the coin I noticed the top of the building had something strange about it. Check it out and all info is appreciated. 79267ADD-C2C7-4629-A26E-0856698DFD41.png 6FB2FFB3-2B4A-401C-901D-7E5A92F439B6.png

Welcome to CT. Nickels are not clad. There are no layers.

Ok so my question then is; why is the reverse a different color with no shine?

    Toning, environmental damage.

What makes you think it might be?

Post a new thread if you suspect you have something valuable. If you think your dime is an error, it's not, PMD (post mint damage).

Damaged dime that can be recreated by throwing one in a McDonalds drive thru and picking it up a few days later.
Hard to spend because a machine won't take it in that shape and you'll get a dirty look from the 7-11 clerk or fruit seller.
The program is still around, I take all my mutilated coins from metal detecting once a year to the bank (credit union) and they give me cash. I try and save up a dollar or two. It's usually zincs, but I have had a few bent quarters, dimes and nickels.
