I have a 1971 D silver penny that I got in a role of pennies. I know there are a lot of plated coins out there from the research I done, but this one looks like it could be real. I did find a website and it said to look for any copper especially around the edges of the penny and there was none. It also said to test it with a magnet, which I did and the magnet did not pick the penny up. I'm not sure really what to do with the coin now. If anyone could give me any advice or suggestions as to what to do with the coin that would be great, since I'm not really a coin expert. I can post pics if that would help with anything. Thanks for the help!

There is a chemistry experiment where you put a penny in a hot solution of sodium hydroxide and zinc dust. The penny will take on a coating of zinc that can be shined up and really look silvery. If you carefully heat this cent up, the zinc coating will alloy with the copper and make a "gold" cent that has a coating of brass. Weigh the cent, a dime blank or a blank made of silver will have a different weight than a cent blank which is copper coated zinc. Take it to one or more dealers and see what they think of it. If you find one that will give you lots of cash, contact me and we can make a fortune. :)
