Looks like it is a small date to me, but I would wait for other people's opinions too.

I also thought if the 9 curled toward the 7 it was small,

    Confusing!

On second glance it does look more like a large date because of the lower 7, but the 9 does look like it's curved more toward the 7. Identifying these really sucks :p

The reason for me is that the photos are not quite detailed enough, and the glare has to be reduced or eliminated. Check this site.http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1970Ssmalldate.html

    Large date

The "0" in the large date is more oval than round, opposite for the small date.

The top bar of the "7" forms a bevel line where it meets the vertical bar, the small date has no crease at the joint

The bottom of the "7" extends significantly below the bottom of the "0", small date level with the bottom of the "0"

The inner loop of the "9" points at the lower point of the "7", sm. date the inner loop points 1/2 way up the vertical of 7

I personally don't try the "low" vs. "high" 7 or the difference in Liberty, as wear can alter the appearance.

    Jim

    p.s. Large date.
