You have a large date. And the MD that @rickmp is referring to is Mechanical Doubling or Machine Doubling. Not true doubling.

Very good pictures even if it's not a small date.

I’ve searched over 1.5mil cents. If I found a good one every 1000 Id be pretty happy with those odds :)

The 9 took a pretty good hit too...probably took a high stick, 4-minute minor.

I am not an errors or variety guy, except for the obvious '55 or '72. I did some reading on it and want to ask you more seasoned searchers. So for a novice, would an easy explanation for the difference between MD & DD be that MD = a shadowing effect on one or more numbers/letters, where DD = a clear 2nd entire numbers/letters? Or is that too simple?

I have literally posted this photo, the 1982 SD LD photo a dozen times a day, continuously. It doesn't help as someone new will not see the old post and ask the same question. So I am just posting to amuse myself.

Could be misleading. First, many of the claimed DD showing up are single squeeze processing, whereas the classics you mention are multiple squeeze. Different species entirely. The degree of true doubling can vary from microscopic to obvious by naked eye, and this is what causes severe disagreement, especially with SS hubbing by various attributators. People see the book prices of say the 1972 DDO #1, and they expect all DD, even on SS to be as rare and valuable. We can explain many times, but when the person has no knowledge other than Youtube, they can not often jump the chasm of noncomprehension from there to here. But give it a shot next time there is an inquiry and see how it goes, I like experiments :) jim

I don't collect this series, but the photo is very helpful to me too.

Hi Thanks for you reply when I first posted this I was thinking that it was a repunch date and letter. as I said in other post I am new and it's very confusing to look at the S it looks like 2 different sizes... Its tough.
