Can the Lincoln 1970-S Small Date be found in Mint / Proof Sets? I would like to finish my Lincoln Set and I would love to purchase the lincoln at a reasonable price.

I understand as to why they are a little more expensive however I really didnt want to fork out the money if there are other possible ways of getting/finding one at a better price :)

    Thank you for your help,

They can be found in those sets. Might be something you could cherry-pick, but I imagine it would take a lot of time and searching before you came across one.

Your best bet is to just go ahead and find them nice and pay the price.
They do come in those sets but all of those are regularly checked by even mainstream dealers collectors.
The price on these will not ever go down much if at all - they are known and known well, have been looked for and looked well.
IMO these are tougher coins than many now know.

They were in 10% of mint sets but it's hard to find anyone who doesn't check for these any more.

They can be had in both Mint Sets and Proof Sets and the sets command a nice premium. My suggestion is that if you want one to finish a collection, that you don't pay the extra for a set that contains one only to destroy the premium attached to the set when you remove the coin that you want.

Could anyone tell me what a reasonable price is to pay for one that is AU and higher grade (not slabbed)

    Thank you,

Get in mint state - that's how most will be anyway and you'll pay more of premieum if AU.
    Retail Ms-63, 64 $40 to $60.

From what I can pick up. you should be able to get an AU for $15 to $20 from eBay. Less if you can be patient and diligent. Those prices seem to agree with Numismedia.
