I say not a small date coin. Most notable is the blunt point on the top end of the Nine. Your coin looks like it could be a proof.
It looks large, as the curl on the 9 does not go around and the 7 is not high enough. Although proof and business strike SD's are not identical. Weakly struck LIBERTY does not apply in this case.
I was hoping someone might have a comment is what the OP referred to as a phantom mint mark. I had suspected that was a reflection, but the cent doesn’t appear to be in a holder. Is that just an instance of seeing what we want to see?
Well, I think Lincoln in the Memorial, looks more like GORT in this cent from the Day the Earth Stood Still. So it's either a Mint Error from someone stamping it that way, or it's just my eyes and mind believing it's something that it isn't. Being stereotypical and thus lacking common cents, or scents .. I mean sense; I'm more likely to accept that it's GORT. Though that squiggle S to the top left of the MM does look cool.
