So I found this 1970 S and noticed the S tilted and also appears to be in a different position than the others ive seen. Any help would be aappreciated.this is my virgin post and I am only 3 weeks into collecting.
Up until 1990 mintmarks were hand-punched into the dies, so you will see varying positions from coin go coin.
Yup. Sometimes they even grabbed the wrong punch, like the Micro S 1945 mercury dime. Its actually an interesting study, looking at mint mark placement. Its also a valuable tool, being strongly used to prove authenticity on some issues like 1909sVDB cents and 1916d dimes.
Thxs for the replies everyone.my head is spinning trying to learn all the differences in coin errors and learning the types.im trying to concentrate on pennies atm.ive got the coin roll hunting bug atm!!
