I have several of these 1970-S Lincoln cents from a couple years of coin searching Canadian cents. A couple of these have the mintmark near the date and some are slightly farther down. Any thoughts out there on if the mintmark location can help identify a small date from a large date coin? Boxes of cents can no longer be bought here in Canada so my searching days are almost at an end. It's been fun but glad it's over. I will be posting a list of my best finds, and there are several, in the future. My best find so far may be a full copper, mid-1970's U.S. dime, no clad front or back. Also investigating an unusual silver colored, 1955 Canadian 1 cent coin.
MM from that era were all hand punched and had absolutely nothing to do with large/small date. Try reading http://www.cointalk.com/t93080/.
