1970-S Lincoln cent, high 7 ?

    It is really difficult for me to determine if this coin is a high 7 small date variety. I have drawn lines under a magnifying glass and compared them to charts I have downloaded and still I can not decide. Need help on this. Thanx, Mike L.

    My guess is large date, the "9" doesn't have the right curved loop to it. Hard to tell without the rest of the coin pictured, especially the word "liberty" where there should be a weak strike also.

    The easiest way to tell the difference is to look at the 9. If the loop of the 9 bends sharply toward the 7, it
    is a small date. If the loop of the 9 is angled toward the top of the mintmark, it is a large date.

    This is a large date.

    The 9 on the small date looks like the 9 on the 1972 and later cents if I'm not mistaken.
