Good evening everyone.....I have a 1970 LC that looks really bold to me....I know there is a term for it but I can't remember what it is :/ I've noticed most of the LC's in the 70's are like this....is this a normal strike for those years? Thanks in advance for all of your thoughts
Dani, the first thing that came to my mind when you said "bold" is an impaired proof. An impaired proof is a coin that has entered circulation. Proof coins are struck twice to ensure a sharp strike, but I don't think this is an impaired proof. Chris
It's well struck, and it appears to be a relatively early die stage. It's a nice example. The 1970 cents ran the gamut from crisp(like your example) to mushy coins struck with overused dies. Keep in mind that in 1969 the mint used a brand new obverse master hub for the cent, so that helped as well. Well struck examples are not uncommon for this year.
