Hello I'm new to the forum, but i got a question? I found this 1970 dime years ago when i was living in jersey, That got my attention, this dime has a copper ring around its edge. It looked strange at that time so decided to put it away in a safe place. I don't know if it was made like that or someone put that ring around it. I looked at it trought a magnifying glass and couldn't see if it had any kind of weld residue were maybe it connected together. So can someone tell me why that dime is like that. ill c if i post a picture of it.
Like all US dimes dated 1965 or after, yours is composed of a pure copper center, and two outer layers of copper-nickel alloy. The action of the blade cutting planchets from rolls of material can leave the edges in just about any condition from a 100% cu-ni appearance to a 100% copper appearance. Most have a reddish center to the edge.

I had one of these also. I would best describe it as a dime with a copper "bezel". I set it aside to ask y'all, but I accidently spent it late one night at White Castle. There was no sighns of solder, welds ect.
Picture of 1970 dime with ring around edge. This are the pictures of the 1970 dime that i have. First of all thank you guys for your replies to my question. The pictures shows the 1970 dime with a regular dime, another thing that i noticed the head of of roosevelt is bigger than of a newer dime. but like i said before, why this dime has a ring around its rim. I hope you guys could help me with this. thanks.
It may have been stuck in a rotary mechanism like a vacuum cleaner impeller or clothes dryer. The continuous bouncing & rolling will make the coin look spooned. Very best regards, collect89
Not spooned or from a dryer/washer, i'm no coin expert but you can def tell that the metal is seperate from the coin, as you can see in my silver penny with the exact same thing, also a nickel with a completely brass ring. If you pinch the coin you can spin it in this rim. No holes or glue from jewelry either. on the silver penny you can see where i tried to seperate it years ago as a kid. The penny is 1959 and the nickel is 1960.
I also have a dime with copper around the dime. Its smaller then a regular dime. Never seen one before . I keep reading that its from a dryer. I dont BELIEVE a dryer can do this to a coin.
