I don't know what to think regarding the mint mark. There is no sign of the FG initials on the reverse of the cent. Any input ? IMG_20130415_085605.jpg IMG_20130415_093001.jpg IMG_20130414_204423.jpg IMG_20130415_093136.jpg IMG_20130415_085228.jpg

PMD on the mintmark, just a bad hit that broke lose a piece. And the only recognized date i'm aware of with the missing initials on the reverse is the 1969-D. Maybe someone can clarify that here shortly.

The 1969-D no initials cent is the only one that is listed in the CPG. And there is damage on the mintmark asnwell, so PMD.

Thanks guys. Are the missing initials something that would be worth looking more into, in your opinions? Also, I doubt the pictures show this, but there appears to be doubling on Liberty, and the date. Anyone see this?

Just wanted to get any other thoughts on the lack of initials on the reverse. I can't see any sign that they were ever there. Could that have happened, or is it more likely they were removed somehow? Also is it just pmd, or is there any doubling? Thanks again!

Your coin shows damage, and the initials were likely abraded off the working die (either that or a minor struck through grease). There's no way the initials could "never be there" because they are part of the design. If they were absent from the master hub, for instance, pretty much all the 1970-D cents would be missing the initials (which they aren't). The doubling also appears to be damage and not a doubled die.
    Keep up the hunt!

I feel that the missing initials are due to grease filled die. In fact I opened an BU roll of 1988 to search for RDV-006 specifically (an anything else that might be there) and found a nice 20 coin progression of grease filling the die until the initials were obliterated. It's not really that uncommon, I don't believe, as I have found a few with either no or very faint initials in my searching.
