I went down to the local bank to pick up a couple of rolls of Quarter looking for State Quarter and to my surprise I found this 1969S. I grade it at AU but what do Ya'll think. I know the pic is not the best but give it your best guess.

Either a very well circulated proof (VF at best IMHO) or the weakest struck proof coin I have ever seen. Not sure which is worse - the eagle's feathers or George's wig. :(

I would put it more at VF-XF than AU, but thats just my oppinion.

And that is just a really circulated proof.

It's always interesting to find these in circulation. My favorite was a '68-S quarter worn to to VG that I found back in 1996. It's simply incredible that the coin could circulate so long without someone noticing that it was a proof only issue.

Unfortunately though it really carries no wholsale premium. Even today the people busting up proof sets would just spend a '69 quarter if it had a little blemish or problem. This is probably how this coin got in circulation in the first place.

I would agree VF would a better grade for this coin. Thank. But even at VF it is still a grate find.
