Hello again Forum Experts~ So I am trying to research items and limiting annoying the forum experts as much as I can. However, I can't seem to figure out what this is. I don't think it's a doubled die, despite it looking so much more promising in pictures LOL! Unfortunately, it seems rather like it's clipped off... not sure. Is that what it is, some of the design just got clipped off? Here's my guesses (based on my history of error bloopers): Mechanical doubling and PMD?
Yours is machine doubling, caused by the planchet wiggling around while it is struck, usually because bolts holding the coin die loosen. This phenomenon is very common, especially for Kennedy half dollars. I am willing to bet anyone who collects Kennedys has more than one with MD. There are very few genuine doubled die 1969-S cents, but many counterfeits produced by counterfeiters Roy Gray and Morton Goodman who also faked other coins in the late 1960s. Below is what a genuine 1969-S looks like.
This is Machine Doubling. Note how the devices are decreased in size by the doubling. That is the "trademark" of MD.
Soooooo cool. Man!!!! That would of been a great find. Please save it so you can look at it from time to time. Thinking of how sudden your life could of changed JUST IF. I enjoyed you sharing.
