So, seeing as I have just started collecting coins, I went to the bank today and got $20 in coins. A bunch of Pennies and Nickles and some Dimes. I have had an absolute blast going through them this evening. I am loving coin collecting. So anyway, I came across the first "S" mint mark I have seen. It was on a 1969 Nickel, actually 2 of them. I know this is nothing great or rare, but it was enough to excite me. I also found 2 wheat pennies (1950 and 1954) Bringing my wheat penny collection to a total of 3. Also today, I found my very first error coin, a 2008 Arizona State Quarter with what appears to be a cactus leaf covering part of the initials under the cactus on the right. Again, nothing spectacular, but it was exciting for me. I feel sad i have missed out all these years on how fun and exciting coing collecting is. I has changed my entire view of change. I will try to post pictures, however, I have been advised I should get a better camera, so that will be an investment I make soon. Looking at a backlit table with a stand for the camera attached. Anyway, thank you all for the help on my questions thus far and all the great information you have offered. Kyle
Welcome to CT Kyle. Glad you jumped on the coin collecting train. Hang on, it's a bumpy ride. Looking forward to seeing that quarter!
Welcome! Lots of knowledgeable collectors on this forum. Feel free to ask any question and enjoy this great hobby!
Let me add my welcome also. Your enthusiasm is good to see. It's never too late to start into the hobby, many of us didn't get into it unill well into adulthood. That quarter you found is actually a known error. Some call it the "extra cactus leaf". It's nothing more than a minor die break that has minimal extra value but I'll give you kudos for spotting it.
found my first 69 s today. only thing is the bottom of the ERTY and the date are flat yet there is no sign of damage.
