I guarantee it's not, but I was wondering if there was any chance it could be. I found this coin roll hunting a few minutes ago, and the date caught me in a way that no other 69-S has. If it's not the DDO, don't bomb me, but I was simply curious.
Not all all. Either Die Deterioration Doubling or Mechanical Doubling. Both considered worthless doubling and not related to a true Doubled Die variety.
Likely machine doubling. I sure do hate that on a 69-S, though. I really wish it was. None of the 69-S's I've gotten to this day have been a DDO as I know of, which is something I hope I will eventually come across. Every once in a while, we all have some newbie-style questions. This was one of mine. The coin actually did look doubled from certain angles, and I would somewhat be focusing on any varieties of the 69-S DDO. After researching, there is really only one variety, unlike some examples such as the 1972 DDO.
Everyone has to ask, saying don't bomb me 10 years ago, it would have been a piling on of "what were you thinking". I lean to DDD. Could be a little of both. most of the doubling radiates towards the rim. If it's flat and shelflike then it is Mechanical. Here is a proof 69S. There is one thing that will always determine the difference between a doubled die and a form of worthless doubling.
The 1969-S doubled die is really strong. I handed one when I was a dealer. If you ever get one, you won’t miss it. It’s similar to the 1955 and 1972 doubled die cents.
There is no mistaking the seperation and detail of the devices. The 72' has both CW and CCW. The 58' is CW.
