1969 proof dime?

I have a 1969 dime that I think is a proof dime. My mom got it from her job, so it is circulated. I don't know if the person who owned it before, had it in uncirculated condition and decided to spend. But, it has a D on it, not an S. In proof coins, it has reflections. On this dime, it has a faint reflection. When I saw it at first, I thought it was a proof dime at first, but it had a D on it. So, is it a proof coin? Please, don't get mad at me and say "why do you keep posting these shiny coins! They're not proof!" Thanks!:D

There were no 69 D proofs, but is well struck and has great luster. That is in AU condition, probaly worth a little more than face value...if that

Proof coins were struck solely at the San Fransisco Mint from 1968 to present.

Nice look uncirculated Denver struck dime.

I agree...it looks like it was a nicely struck 1969-D business strike. It's not a proof, but it is a nice looking coin for sure.

Alex, modern Proof coins are "shiny" but that does not mean that all shiny coins are Proof coins. What you have may be a Proof-like coin. You should read the section on Proof coins in your Red Book so you have a better understanding of exactly what a Proof coin is.

    I don't have a red book, sadly

That should be your very next purchase. It does not need to be a 2012 Red Book. I am using a 2008 Red Book. I paid $2 for it a month or two ago. (I also have a 2010 that I refer to. I may have paid $2 or $3 for it because the 2012 was already out.) The important thing is that you have access to the information in the book. And you need to read it. Buying the book does not give you any knowledge but reading the book will.

Tell you what. PM me your name and address and I will send you a Red Book. It won't be a 2012 but it will be 2005 or later.

No problem. I just pulled out an unopened 2006 edition for you. It will have everything you need to know except for the most recent releases (things like the ATB Quarters and hockey pucks, Prez Dollars, etc.) The basic info you need to know is all there.

    Possible error on dime

There appears to be an error on the coin. It has something on some of the left side of the edge. It's kinda hard to explain, though. You can look at the pics. Is it an error?

Hobo, I'm very happy that you would offer me a red book. But My dad said no because he didn't want me to give my address to you. I'm sorry, but I will probably buy one instead. So does anyone know where I can buy one that is not online?

On post #1, in the first pic, you can see the possible error at the top left corner on the dime

I understand what your dad is saying and I am a dad and gran pa, but look at Hobo's post total. We do this kind of stuff all the time on Coin Talk, but your dad is right to be vigilante, but in this case he is wrong. There are people doing all kinds of transactions on here and if there are any bad apples they are called out. I hope your dad gets more involved with your participation on here and lets some of the members through a few crumbs your way.

What is the error and does it have any value?
