I found this 1969 Jefferson nickel with a clipped edge. Is this a pmd coin or mint damaged coin? The edge is smooth. My guess, man made. IMG_2563.jpeg IMG_2564.jpeg IMG_2566.jpeg IMG_2567.jpeg

I think it could be a mint error due to what looks like a bit of Blakesley Effect on the obverse. Can you show a photo of the edge at clip?

The proper terminology is Incomplete Planchet. Nothing at any time was ever "clipped" on any Incomplete Planchet.
What occurs is that the Blank Planchet was cut out of the Nickel stock sheet bit to close to the previous cut Planchet. This occurs when the stock sheet doesn't move forward probably for some reason.

Shown in grey are the different incomplete planchet issues that can occur.

They are called clips because they look like they were clipped. A lot to take in but it's the facts

But common usage has it as a "Clipped Planchet" or a "Clipped Coin", just like a "penny"

Yes of course. Even the TPG's use the other way of stating it.. Curved Clip on their labels.

Quality control comes and goes. Some get through. People throw some away.

Sorry should have asked this too. Inside of clip looks quite smooth. Can you show photo of coin face opposite of clip?
Looking for Blakesley Effect weakness opposite of clip.
