I agree. I would try a bath in Acetone(100%). Value?? 50 Cents.

 

Keep in mind 40% silver

 

It was definitely a stain acetone took it off immediately.I should have tried that first but wasn’t sure if it would discolor the area in question. Thanks

 

It looked like a stain but I’m sure it looks better now. A decent 40% silver coin.

 

I guess the mystery is solved. I was going to say tape residue.
