Mint marks cannot be Doubled Die in 1968 because they were hand punched into the die.

Are you sure? Variety Vista has 3 listed for the 1968-s lincoln cent, however I can't tell if this is one.

I was talking about the mint mark.. It cannot be Doubled Die only Repunched. There is a difference.

I’m thinking of the 1960D SD over LD DDO with RPM. It doesn’t happen where two types of doubling occur on the same coin. I don’t think there is a case like this for 1968. Check out the listings though.

I see 4 DDO varieties and 3 RPM varieties at Coppercoins but nothing matches your coin. VV May have others and maybe Wexler’s.

A Doubled Die occurs during the die making process as the working hub is slightly misaligned during one or more of the multiple pressings needed to make a working die (the mint now uses a single press process)

The appearance of multiple mintmarks is known as a repunched mintmark (RPM) and is caused when the mint technician misaligns the punch as the mm is added by hand to the die. Since 1989, the mint makes the die with the mm in place so RPMs are no longer possible.

Another trick, is if you see doubling on both the date AND mm on coins prior to 1989, it is almost always due to mechanical or deterioration doubling and not a true doubled die
