Is this a doubled Die? Everything I find seems to always be md or deterioration or pmd. So what do you all think? 171014_062947.jpg 171014_062908.jpg 171014_062859.jpg 171014_062855.jpg

From what I can see on my small phone screen it looks like mechanical doubling. I don't have the link but there is a website that has different examples of doubling that will help you. It takes a while and I even still have trouble with doubled dies but you get better as you go. Maybe someone who knows the link I'm talking about will post it. Keep looking and good luck.

    Eric.

MD, the secondary image is flat. In the 60s the dies were made with more than a single pressing. If there was movement of the die being pressed, it would most commonly be produced with the same or close force , so the secondary image should not be flat, but raised , sometimes as much as the first image ( 1955/55, 1972/72, etc). Also, although it may sometimes not be as noticeable, a true double die does not reduce the thickness of the first image, but adds to it. In this one, you may be able to see , on the crossbar of the '8' the left side where there is more doubling is thinner than the right side (MD). Although there are exceptions, when the mint mark also shows such doubling too, it is highly suspect of MD. Jim
