I can't seem to match this 1968 DDO with the six class 2's listed on coppercoins. I don't know if you guys can help with the six listed being so similar, but I am just hoping one of you notices something I am overlooking. One problem is the reverse. There is some corrosion or verdi on the reverse, so I can't make out any of the reverse attributes. Thanks all for you help and comments!
I love this DDO, because when I first started out roll hunting and was getting miss after miss trying to identify doubled dies, I stumbled across one like this. I saw the noticeable split in the G of GOD and suddenly it all clicked. Nice find, Jay.
It's crazy how it happens. Once it does, it's easy to see. I saw the N first and thought, "maybe". Then I went straight to the G and bam, there it was. I just don't know which one it is.
With the corrosion on the back, it isn't worth it. It probably wouldn't be worth it unless it was in the higher mint states I would guess. Coppercoins has all the similar ones listed at $15 in MS65. It just costs too much to send in.
The actual populations of these DD's will never be known because so many of the lower grades will never get slabbed.
I lean toward 1968P-1DO-001 but a late die state. It's tough to be 100% certain from images but the N of IN and the G of GOD look right for -001 Markers may not be present on a late die state coin.
you are right and I believe the same could be said for a early die state coin. some of the die markers occur on the die while the die is in use for a while like say a die gouge or scratch.
