I was going through some old coins and found a 1968 o nickel. I'm definitely sure its a D mint mark. But the D doesn't look anything like a D. Where the vertical line on the D is, its rounded just like the curved line on the right side of the D. Looks just like an O. Could this be a D over backwards D? I'm confused as to how it got there. Ive been collecting for a few years now and know the difference between P, D, And S. Help!!! Anyone???
Give me a second to grab my girls phone and do it from there. It keeps saying my memory is to low to complete this process.
Since when do we grab anything? Say please!! Memory too low to complete? Must be a phone thing. Awaiting patiently.
Yup! That's a hit, a darn good placed one, but that's some hit on the planchet. (Aka- It's Post Mint Damage - Not an error)
What coin are we talking about? Your title says 1968 Not 1969?? If it is a 1969, then anything's possible. Just look at Woodstock man. Now that was far out and groovy. Dig it, man? Seriously, your pics are not good enough to tell if it is in fact a RPM. Here is a website to check for yourself. 1968-D RPMs (varietyvista.com)
I haven’t read through all the replies, just your original post @Justin Sr. and looked at the photos you posted. I’m sure others have stated the same but it looks like bumps and hits from circulation have rounded off the vertical bar of the D. It’s a fairly common occurrence for numbers and letters to be distorted by circulation.
Good eye to catch that. Most, even us collectors, don't look that close at our change. I can see why you questioned the MM, but as stated, it is considered damage, and not any type of error.
Definitely took a hit on the Mint work. And your thread title is 1968 with the coin you showed is 1969.
We have established it was the wrong date posted. My my my what a great sense of vision you have!!! Can we get an applause for this bright young man!!!
That looks more like a 0 than an O. We need better pictures to tell. If you can take some closer ones that might help.
