Here it goes...my first post. I have some questions about some recent mint sets I purchased. 1968 Lincoln cents sets. First off ...the coins in the sealed folders look kinda worn and scratched for UC sets. Still sealed and un tampered with . I looked closer with my loupe and come up with these pictures here. hard to get great detail through plastic. All 6 1968 LC have doubling to them , in diff. areas. The 1 set w/ Susan B has doubling to IGWT.. Any idea's or thoughts to them ?
Sorry that I can't offer any advise on the coins, seeing I don't really know much in this area, but you would get much better of a response posting this in the Error Coins Forum.
Thank you for the input. I meant to say that my Kennedy half had the IGWT DBL letters...not Susan B..sorry
The hubs were getting pretty old in 1968 and had lost a great deal of detail so these coins usually have a somewhat "mushy" appearance which looks a little like wear. To compound the problem there is a soft layer of plastic inside the sleeve of the holder which contains PVC which will cause the coins to tone or corrode. All 1968-P cents in the sets now have carbon spots and the vast majority are very unsightly because of them.
