Just got back from the flea market where i picked up this 1967 SMS for $10.
It's the lowest mintage of the three SMS's,just 1.863,344 .
It dosn't scan too well ,but in hand it looks very Proof like and i bet the JFK half would make MS-67 easily.
Red book lists the set at $22 and coin values magazine at $21 so even if those values are somewhat high
it was still a bargin. The box is in nice condition but no certificate.
I still need to check E-bay for auction prices.

    silver,
I don't think they even came with certificates of authenticity.I've bought a lot of these and never saw a COA.A lot of proof sets were also issued without them, depending on the year.Maybe someone here has a list?

to the best of my knowledge there were no COA's in any proof sets made between 1970 and 1985. I'm not sure about the SMS sets.

Are those years Mint sets packaging easy to open? You know, to switch coins out?

Very nice. Why are you worried about what is on ebay? Are you planning on selling them or keeping them? If your keeping them, don't worry about the value, be happy you got something that nice for a great price.

NO just curious, because getting a good deal is part of the fun for me. It’s unlikely I would ever sell it; I just like to have an accurate idea of the value.
So you guy's seem to think it didn't come with a COA?Good to know.
As far as opening the case I’m not sure how easy it is but the case looks like one of those five coin capital plastic holders.

You can't open them without breaking the seal and that would be easy to spot if it were done, just like the modern proof sets.

There is no COA in the SMS's though the '65 has a small sheet about the coins.

The plastic cases for the '66 and '67 were made by Whitman and are the standard mint set holders with a blue insert and "US Mint" imprinted into the plastic. These sets can be opened but rarely are and most people do not seem to be aware of the fact.

The '67 set has always had a larger premium than the other two. It tends to be better made so this may be the largest reason. The mintage is a little lower as well.
