OK, I found this in a roll about 6 months ago. Does it look like something that was done at the mint, or by someone with too much time on their hands?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

It looks like a curved clip. It's possible it's a fake clip. The absence of taper and weakening of the rim as it approaches the clip is a warning sign, as is the absence of a Blakesley effect. The latter is a weakening of the rim at the pole opposite the clip.

Looks fake to me, for the reasons stated above, as well as the fact that the clip is too distinct - almost a "v" shape. As far as I know, a genuine clip tends to have a slightly softened curve when struck and the metal flows with the pressure.
