Hey all, So I was looking at this nickel and I saw something odd. I do not know if it a flat shelf like or an actual DDO. I looked at Vista Varieties and some other examples but I couldn't match it up. The closest I got was the DDO-002. I will upload the full image with my cellphone. the more I look at the pictures, It looks like a md. Vista should have option to zoom in in the pictures. I was focusing in the "S" and I thought it mightve been a ddo.

Just a question. here are the examples for the DDR on vista. You can see that the there are dark shadows for examples. Are the dark shodows suppose to be the doubling? 1967PDDR005b UN.jpg 1967PDDR005b UM.jpg

Not really but look down the right side of the M. You can see it’s doubled.

    A couple points:

This is the reverse of the coin, so it would be a DDR rather than a DDO. Also, looking at Brian's Variety Coins, all the DDRs for this date are SMS coins and not business strikes for circulation. While you can find SMS coins in circulation (like impaired proofs), it will be an infrequent event.

Interestingly, some of the SMS DDR specimens at Brian's site do look like MD specimens.

One day after looking for DDO and DDR varieties so much.. You will get tired of searching.

I stopped around the year 2000 when I realized it wasn't worth it :stop::yawn:

Just look for the major Doubled Die varieties that don't need magnification.

At least you are doing your homework. I commend you for that.
I think with time, you should be able to see the differences. Good luck.
