I found this 1967 quarter with some things wrong in the "TRUST" part. I have read the post with another person having something similar with the "U" but the last "T" seems to me it might be something more. I took some photos but this site is not accepting them. Anyways the last T looks like an up-side down 2. If I could get some opinions that would be great. Thanks
Post mint damage (PMD)... when a coin takes a hit in a certain way, it "pushes" the metal around, sometimes forming what looks like a mis-strike. I save my damaged coins... I find them interesting. Welcome to CT! Here's a heavily damaged quarter I found in change:
He is correct. It is just a hit, probably from another coin. The mint doesn't hammer each letter into the die, so there's no way they could "accidentally" put a 2 there. Look up how the dies are made if you want to understand better.
ok i think its just a hit also and if this is late its because i couldnt log in for the past couple days
Take it to a professional these people are haters they always say it’s not an error and then everyone repeats the same thing as the first guy said
The person you responded to was last seen on CoinTalk on July 7, 2011.. Learn to check the dates on these old threads before responding and crapping on the mint error specialists
Funny, that. People who have been dissapointed to discover their million dollar payday coin is nothing but a damaged, normal coin always blame others as haters, non-experts or dealers. The reason the replies are generally the same is because it is a CONSENSUS OF OPINION by some very experienced numismatists. More time spent reading and researching the minting process and what REAL errors and varieties look like, is time better spent than venting inaccuracies on a forum.
