Before I send this off to nowhere land, I'd like an opinion or 6. I've had this coin many years and kept it because it looked weird. The more I check, the weirder it. The front has Washington and slightly rotated (and backward) eagle. The back has two eagles, one backwards. The lettering is also backwards.

Howdy sgentsch - Welcome to the Forum !!

This is not gonna be the answer you wanted - the coin has been intentionally altered in my opinion. It is done by placing one coin on top of another and then squeezing them in a vise or striking them with a hammer. This imparts the image of one coin onto the other - but the image and the legends are mirror images - backwards if you will.

You hit the nail (or coin :) ) on the head. Post mint damage all the way.

    Thanks for the answers!

That makes sense. I don't know a thing about how coins are made. I was wondering how the eagles could be backward. Oh well, I did have a puzzle for a while.

Hmm, maybe my grandaughter would like a weird coin.

Just finished cataloging the small amount of coins I have, mostly silver, and need to go through them with "the book".

Guess I'll remove the pictures (if I can), and get to the book!
