With the photo you've provided, I'd have to say it's just wear. A better photo is needed to tell you anything more. Make sure it's in focus and cropped to show as little background as possible.

Added to what Rick said, it's best to use a copy stand or a tripod for a good, clear photo. Then, you need to crop the image and resize it.
