Hi again to all you experts. This time I bring this cent I found in my circulated collection. In my humbled opinion this coin appears to be a variety, but I almost ever be wrong, so... Any comments are appreciated and welcomed. Thanks.
Thanks @eddiespin. I take a looooot of pictures to get only a few ones clear enough to show what I see using 40x magnifier.
Unfortunately the obverse is MD. Flat, shelflike with reduction of the devices. The reverse has die deterioration and MD. Good pictures!
Thanks @Danomite. I try to do my best. I really don't know if I'm worrying you all with my posts, but till now, at least one of the coins I have posted really was a variety.
As posted above, machine doubling and great images that give us a good look at what you think you are seeing and therefore able to give you the best possible advice. Finding an unknown variety is a rare occurance on a 50/60 year old issue and after 4 years as a member here you should be able to check your coins against the known examples on sites such as http://varietyvista.com/ https://doubleddie.com/ by giving us the benefit of a reference and die markers, we can give you even better opinions. Hope this helps going forward, good luck and keep posting
You are not worrying us. Just keep up the hunt and study the above mentioned sites. Happy hunting and hope you have the best of luck!!
My sincere apologizes for posting some threads for the same thing. I thought the cases I was presenting could be rare on those dates, even if it was an MD. I searched on the Varietyvista website, but there I only saw proof coins, and mine are circulated coins. I have little time to look at my humble collection, but despite my 4 years here, I disappeared from Cointalk for almost two years, because of the pandemic and the depression I had because of it. And I didn't even touch my coins in that period. Only now I'm returning and trying to breathe new life to my modest collection.
Welcome back to the hobby. It's always there to pick up and ease off of as life permits. Most hobbies aren't jobs...less demanding as a result. I agree with our fellow enthusiasts above. They provided you with solid input. One thing I would suggest is to learn the differences between classes of doubling. This will help you when you are trying to ID/Attribute a variety. Unfortunately, the classic NAV doubling and some lights bouncing about on the tapered edges of the devices making things look doubled. Stick with it...and keep posting your specimens. The group here are always willing to help our fellow enthusiasts develop the eye. Good luck on the hunt!!
Possibly you were referencing the wrong page. There is only 1 DDO and 1 DDR for 1966 on Variety Vista and both are business strike coins. http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO 1966.htm http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDR 1966.htm
Yes, I was viewing in a right page but wrong date. Thank you @expat, but consulting the Variety Vista page about the DDR 1966, The medium spread on ONE CENT and AMERICA and Lincoln Memorial (all right side and column on the left side) the same as mine. Well, anyway, this particular case isn't catalogued, and if it hasn't been found after so long, it wouldn't be showing up now. But, I like this coin and it still have a luster and deserves to be keeped. Sorry if some phrases don't explain what I wanna say (my portuguese isn't so easy to translate to your english).
Always collect and keep what you like, no-one should tell you differently. Your English is very good, I am an Englishman living in Spain for 17 years and still have a little difficulty sometimes
@Wal888 do you live in America? If not, what is the source of your US coins? Keep up the search and be of good health.
I'm from Curitiba - Brazil. I started to collect US Coins when received some coins in change when I traveled to Orlando visiting Disney. First time in March/1998 and last time in December/2010. But all others I have in my collection were purchased here in Brazil, in local shops and by internet. This particular collection of Quarters, Fives Dimes and Cents I am sorting was purchased for less than face value. The face value was US 52.00 and i paid US 45.00. What a bargain!!!
Very nice. I'm always curious how US coins get into stores of foreign countries. You did very well on the ones you've purchased. Do you collect any Brazilian coins? I've come across a ton of them in my last World coin purchase.
Yes, I have a collection of Brazillian coins from the first and second families of the Real, from 1994 to 2021, from 1 cent to 1 real. But I have a lot of coins with errors that I've been finding and keeping. Some of them I bought from other collectors. But my focus is collecting coins from all countries with dates before 1950 and made of silver, but it has been quite expensive and hard to get. These are the Brazillian colection, Brazillian error coins and aleatory coins from any countries (Waiting for sorting) These are the special coins These are MS coins (one day I'll send them to PCGS) These are Silver coins purchased from collectors
As you see, my collection is humbled and poor. I didn't show the US coins collection because I'm sorting them, but I already had shown them in a thread posted long time ago.
The guides are very helpful in finding the common labels for various varieties, but I think are not helpful is that a searcher commonly looks at the whole image and so the majority looks similar, but maybe not the variety. For value, most true DDs are usually very close in height of the doubling. I do not agree with several of the photo sites as they strive to beat out the others and some "doubtable" varieties show up. IF a person likes to look at rolls and rolls of coins, it is a very inexpensive hobby \ Jim
