Hi! Could someone please let me know (Paddyman?!!) if this is doubled died? As always, thanks for your time and knowledge!
I have no clue! I am spending every bit of free time I have, which is close to NOTHING, on learning everything I can about the coins I’ve collected as long as I can remember! So, please forgive me for any grammar errors! I seriously can’t figure out any of these- just when I think I have- I find out I am WAY OFF! Needless to say, if you are correcting my grammar, thank you very much- I will take note for next time!
But in terms of the grammatical structure of the sentence: "Is this doubled died?" It would make sense if it was, "Is this doubled?" But, if one wants to use that structure with doubled die, then it would only make sense for it to be "doubled died" and use the past tense -ed for both words, not just one. You couldn't say "Is this doubled die?" you'd have to insert an 'a' between 'this' and 'doubled'
I am seriously laughing reading this because this is such a common topic for my father AND I!! He gives me a lecture almost daily about my grammar! So I just want to know- was I actually correct the way I used “doubled died” or incorrect?
First, I'm an admitted language bast$%# - in other words I believe one's language is an accurate depiction or glimpse of the underlying organization and nature of one's thoughts. So... First one is if you fell on your head a lot (not saying anyone was dropped, so pipe down) and can't remember the language you've heard all your life. Second one is grammatically correct, yet imprecise as there are many kinds of doubling and only a few desirable, so doesn't really ask what you want to know. Third is if you learned English as a second language (excusable) or can't be bothered (less so). The best thing would be to read up on all the sorts of doubling there are, bookmark some internet research pages and then one's questions will probably be either already answered or at least in communicable form. Just the different classes of hub doubling are enough study for a while. I would start with the fact that pretty much all of the desirable doubled dies are already known to coin collectors. A better way to pose the question would be - is this THE famous DDO FS-101 or FS-108 for this year? In other words, Can you confirm what I've already researched? Sorry, got a lot of time on my extremely clean hands these days
These days, I feel like I don’t even know English! I’m not sure if it’s all the “new age” talk from people online or if it’s the fact I stay home with 4 WONDERFUL kids that I call GREMLINS! But my use of language would probably be closest to the caveman era!
