I found this quarter in my collection it seems to have an error in the striking process That makes it appear as if the quarter has been sanded but it is not only in the high spots but the low as well-and there seems to be right above in God we trust An error in the stamping as well can anyone shed some light on this?

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

I wish that you could have provided a larger image of the coin. It helps when you crop out the extraneous background, resize the image and then use the "Full Image" option instead of the crappy "Thumbnail" image.

Environmental damage after it left the mint. Probably acid

I thought it might have been acid damage as well so I took quarters of the same year-and subjected them to 3 different kinds of acid hydro chloric sulfuric and nitric None of the coins resulted in pitting Only disolving the oxidized layer. I also put this under a microscope and found that the pitting has no scratching Or Goring and the innermost deepest part of the pit matches the exact same composition as the rest of the coin In the unaffected areas.

Is that a counter-stamp above IGWT?

I'm not sure what a counter stamp is.

The coin looks to have been media blasted

There are uneffected areas on each side. Look like wires may have been taped to each side for some kind of electrolysis experiment.
    I would say PMD.

We will never know what caused it for sure but it's just damage.
