So dare I ask, what caused this? Seen it before on all-clads. I could break that tip off very easily if I wanted, it's just hanging on the edge. Might a counting machine cause these? :rolling:
Hi, Because the edge is distorted it is highly likely that it is post-mint damage of some sort. A counting machine could cause this but there are many unknowns that could have also caused this damage. Thanks, Bill
Hey Bill, look at these, just took 'em. This is why I thought, counting machine, provided you folks couldn't attribute it to any error. I don't see these all the time, though, certainly not as often as counting machine scratches, that's why I thought I'd ask.
Hold on to them, whatever it was , was very consistent. It's all post-mint but actually very interesting. Are they all the same date? Thanks, Bill
All random dates. The first one's a '65 and the others are '72, '72-D, '77, and '00-P. I guess that would suggest a single machine. If not a counting machine, might even have been a vending machine. I guess I'm pretty sure, though, as you, it's damage, not an error. At least, at this point. Cool damage...but damage, nonetheless.
The fact that the dates are different does kinda nail down the "damage by the same device" scenario. Before I have to answer a lot of unusual questions If these were an error of some type, which they aren't, a certain look could cross "date lines" so to speak. Since , however, there is nothing at the mint that can cause this type of damage consistently over the years mentioned, these particular coins have to be damaged. Thanks, Bill
